For those of you that might have been anxiously awaiting this year’s announcement, I’m going to let you in on the secret if you haven’t heard already. Thanks to some detective work, and by that I mean a little time on Google & Twitter, it looks like we’ll be breaking out the flip flops and sunglasses for this year’s 2018 CWNP WiFi Trek conference. Oh, I guess I should tell you where we’re going right? Looks like we’re headed to San Diego, California!
The conference hotel is right on the San Diego Bayfront with great views and if you’re lucky you might even see a US naval warship or two in harbor. Also, the Bayfront provides a great place to go for a run, or simply enjoy the great weather San Diego is known for. If you’re looking for things to do pre- or post- conference, here are some of my favorite things in San Diego. If you have suggestions, feel free to add them in the comments!
Restaurants:
Juniper & Ivy – http://www.juniperandivy.com
This has to be one of my favorite places to eat on the West Coast, and coming from a foodie you know it’s good. It’s a bit outside of downtown but the area around the restaurant has a great atmosphere with lots of other places to grab a bite or drink. Make reservations early as sometimes it can be difficult to get into.
Donut Bar – http://www.donutbar.com
This place always has a line wrapped around the building, but I promise you that it’s worth standing in line for. If you are on a diet, feel free to run a little extra the days before the conference so you can squeeze this into your diet!
Coasterra – https://www.cohnrestaurants.com/coasterra
This place features modern Mexican food and an amazing list of tequilas that is sure to get you a little tipsy. Also have a great table side guacamole that is very tasty for the fellow avocado lovers out there.
Stone Brewing – http://www.stonebrewing.com
If you are a beer or wine fan, you must put this on your list of places to go. It is built on the grounds of Liberty Station, a former naval air training facility in San Diego. For those of you that don’t know, Liberty Station is where parts of the Top Gun movie was filmed. Lots of history, great food, and great drinks to be enjoyed here.
BirdRock Coffee Roaster – https://www.birdrockcoffee.com
Great local coffee shop that roasts their own beans locally.
Attractions:
San Diego Zoo – http://zoo.sandiegozoo.org
USS Midway Museum – https://www.midway.org
Petco Park – https://www.mlb.com/padres/ballpark
It’s sure to be another great conference and gathering of some of the best wireless professionals in the industry this coming fall and I can’t wait to see everyone there! Be sure to keep an eye on http://www.cwnp.com for more conference details or follow them on twitter @CWNP
